From Susan Wittig Albert, bestselling author of the China Bayles Mysteries, comes The Darling Dahlias and The Naked Ladies—book two in the delightful historical cozy series featuring the ladies of a garden club who also dabble in digging up clues.
“‘Naked Ladies’ is not a respectable name for a plant.”
It’s 1930, but despite the loosened mores of the Roaring Twenties, some folks in Darling, Alabama, take exception to the name of the lilies that decorate Miss Hamer’s lawn. Now it seems Miss Hamer’s house may be home to naked ladies of a different sort. When her niece, Nona Jean Jamison, and Nona’s friend Miss Lake come to stay with the elderly recluse, rumors sprout that they are actually the Naughty and Nice Sisters from the Ziegfeld Frolic—a nearly naked song-and-dance act!
When Nona denies her vaudeville past, the Dahlias begin to suspect that more than modesty is causing the women to lie low. Why has Nona changed her hair color? Why is Miss Lake never seen without a veil? And who is the shady stranger from Chicago who’s come asking about Nona? The Dahlias are sure that someone is covering something up—something far more sinister than just bare skin. Depression-era recipes.
