250 Treasured Country Desserts

“We all have eaten and enjoyed the elaborate restaurant desserts created by trained pastry chefs, but we love the good old, old-fashioned desserts best—the ones our mothers and grandmothers made,” say Andrea Chesman and Fran Raboff. Their charming collection of 250 treasured country desserts captures all the goodness of sweet treats from days gone by. From simple cookies, puddings and scones to luscious layer cakes, impossibly flaky pies and homemade ice cream, these are the kinds of desserts that will be gobbled up first at festive gatherings, the ones that will have you impatiently checking the kitchen timer until it’s (finally!) time to pull something delicious out of the oven, refrigerator or freezer. Color illustrations.

All Hand-me-down Recipes!

In all honesty, I probably have all the recipes in here. Thats because I have an extensive cookbook collection, but Im going to add this one because it has so many of the recipes I remember as a child. It also has interesting anecdotes on the origins of the recipes. Its a soft cover book but very thick. Dont look for any pictures though. I know it says there are color illustrations, but that is deceiving since the brown and white pictures are for decorative purposes only. This book would make a really nice shower gift or to give to someone who is just starting out on their own. The recipes are truly good ones.....ones that have been handed down through the generations, tried-and-true and all yummy.
