Alys Fowler is a passionate advocate of the simple joy of working in the dirt: “Gardening is something you do, not something you buy…. It’s the process, not the sudden transformation that matters. When you build a little, dig a bit, plant a little, harvest often and, more importantly, don’t try to do it all at once, nature works with you.” Her thrifty tips for getting the most from store-bought plants, propagating cuttings and maximizing space will help you grow thriving oases of green without spending a lot of green. Add to the mix fun ideas for making unique containers out of flea market finds and recyclables, and you’ve got the perfect gardening guide for crafty types and bargain hunters alike! Color photos.
Mother Nature's “odd” tip
“Always plant in odd numbers. Odd numbers of plants always look better than even; it just looks more natural. Check out Mother Nature’s own planting style and you’ll find a great mass in the middle and a few trailers on either side (weeds growing in wasteland all fall into this pattern). This is called a drift. If all you were ever to do was to plant drifts of pleasing colors in your garden, it would look fantastic.” —From Garden Anywhere

I bought this book for my daughter-in-law who knows nothing about gardening, and believes herself to be a kinda plant killer. ( And some people looking on kinda think it, too.) She's been reading the book, and she likes it. She said it's given her confidence, and "how to." I haven't read the book, but she does have another outlook since reading it. When you've gained "how to"-I think you've "got it."

I was disappointed with this book. Although it had a few good ideas for where to plant it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I was hoping to get more information on "sharing spaces" ande creative uses, but it feel short.

This book is great, it gave me so many ideas for gardening in any space at all. We have already implemented some of the ideas and will do more in the spring. The tips for doing some things for free are very helpful and we are building a fence around my flower garden out of pallets, to keep the dogs out, and they look great.
