Ah, the crocheted afghan. Seen one, you've seen them all, right? Well, no! Unexpected Afghans takes the afghan we all know and love to new and exciting places. Bestselling author Robyn Chachula enlisted popular designers—including club favorites like Edie Eckman, Kristin Omdahl, Doris Chan and Dora Ohrenstein—to dream up 29 wildly innovative projects. This book has it all, right down to easy-to-follow diagrams and charts for all the designs, which include a log cabin afghan with a surprising pop of doily accenting, an afghan that looks like the Bethlehem Star, and a cheery baby blanket made out of an array of flower-shaped blocks. Chapters cover Cables, Granny Motifs, Color, Lace and even Tunisian Crochet.

This book is the same old afghans, and really nothing new. I was hoping more for a few different weaves or patterns, but I've done these before. However, the patterns are easy enough, and the instruction is good. Pictures are nice too.
Was somewhat disappointed with this book. I hoped for some new ideas with afghans but it seems to be the same-old-same-old.

I ordered this book thinking that it had both knitting and crochet patterns and was disappointed to find that it's only crochet patterns. The other disappointment is many of the patterns are old and most of them totally unappealing. I'm waiting for my authorization to return the book to the Club. Don't waste your money!
